Temple of Airjitzu

Build Log - prior to June 2017

I built this back in May 2016, and logged it only on a Facebook post. That was a mistake, because it took me a few days to go back and find it. Let's get this Build Log blogged, where I can find it. I'm not usually a big Ninjago fan, but the Temple of Airjitzu (set 70751) is just a pretty set. Quaint little buildings and a bridge. With dragons. Yeah, I had to build this one.

This is going to be a big project. 15 bags of bricks. 302-page instruction book.

First couple of bags complete. This is a little market/store. There's some fruit, bread, and cookies, but also ninja uniforms for sale. Don't miss the chickens outside and the fishing poles set up to bring in dinner, and the very neat signs by the door. I'm also fond of the little lanterns hanging at the corners of the building. From the backside, you can see the treasure chests hidden in the roof for smuggling the good stuff.

The next section was the blacksmith's shop. It has several neat trees hanging off the side. There's also a very cleverly designed forge that just tickled me. The sides are car doors, and the whole thing is turned upside-down and sideways. Even the chimney for the forge is a pretty neat design. Nowadays, most of the building remains, but with a huge barrel of katana-blades outside, because I had so many, thanks to several Ninjago builds.

By the time I finished Bag 5, the two outlying buildings were complete and I'd begun the basement of the main building, in which there is a shadow theatre. Here you can see some of the workings of it. A cog on the outside of the building allows you to turn the bowl, which has flames and statuettes in it. Over where that slanted red brick is will be a light-brick, and where the gold railings are will be a screen. The light behind the snake and bowl will shine shadows on the screen for a show.

With a little more built, you can see the screen, and even the lightbrick, for the theatre. And most of the second story is now complete. The sliding panel doors are beautiful, and all of the construction has a very oriental feel.

Three stories now complete on the main building. The main floor has some tile-work and will be a reception-type area. The third floor holds some weapons and target stuff. And the third floor has books and painting equipment. Up in the attic, there's a hidden box of stuff that belongs to one of the ninjas.

A statue of Master Wu now sits in the fountain out front, and there are steps leading up to the porch on the main floor.

There are three sizes of roof pieces, each made just a little different.

Finally, all three buildings are complete. One bag left to connect them all together, including the bridge.

And then the completed set. There's even a little guy with a cart full of fireworks! Note the clever little bridge, with dragons at each corner. That got moved to my office park build.

This is how it's displayed currently - just the main building, with a couple of other Ninjago sets. You can see just the edge of the smithy on the left, on a shelf nearby.
