Dual Phone Stand

Custom Project - prior to June 2017 (used until disassembled 2020)

I have two cellphones - an iPhone for work, and a Samsung for personal use. When I'm at work, I need to have both at hand, charging, and easily on view. Sure, I can just set them down on my desk, but I like having a place for things to go, and I'd like to avoid the visual clutter of cables just strewn across the desk.

I referenced some other phone stand builds I found on the internet for ideas, but this is a custom build, designed mostly through trial-and-error with a pile of bricks and my phones at hand. Then when I took the stand to work, I started making some adjustments there (which meant carrying bricks back and forth each day).

This is the original build I made. There's space for both phones to sit in it, oriented either landscape or portrait. Angled bricks provide a resting surface for the phones that won't scratch anything up.

Here's the work phone reclining at a great angle. Channels in the base portion allow for charging cables to come through at either the left or the right, and claw bricks can hold the cable when not in use. To keep the cable on the right from getting pulled in, I blocked the opening with a brick that can easily come off as needed (too easily, as it worked out).

Once I actually got the build to work, I realized that the cord-block was going to be knocked off frequently, and also that the angle for the cord to come out the right side and immediately curve up to plug in didn't work well. So I removed the cover piece, and completely blocked off that channel with a simple 1x4 brick; the channel's still there to use if I want to do something with it later. The work phone can rest in a landscape mode, as well, while still charging, if that is better for some purpose.

I also blocked off half of the left channel with a 1x2 brick, since both cords fit through that 1x2 gap remaining just fine.  Then I replaced one top front brick with a 1x4 edge-brick to hold my Pokemon Go Plus button; I'd like to set my Plus button on the stand where I can press the button, but it doesn't sit on the desk and rattle.

Here's the stand with my personal phone on it instead of the work phone. Because I use a wallet-case with my personal phone, it took a little more space to support it. But it can also fit either landscape or portrait, while both are charging, if desired.

So - finished product - either orientation for both phones, both charging, with a spot for the Pokemon Go Plus button:
