Planted a Garden

Custom Project - June 2020

Today the rest of my household replanted their orchids. I don't do plants, so I did a Lego garden project instead.

I started by watching this tutorial on building a potted bush plant.

All the stems for this bush are based on a five-stem piece. Unfortunately, I only had one of those, in a tan color.

But I did have plenty of the three-stem pieces, and I realized that by using a particular style of flower, I could end up with both flower and green stud on the same stem. So I built the bush with these techniques instead:

While I was looking for the barrel base for that bush, I found several more, so I looked at my other plant pieces and created a few more 'potted plants'. This one was super simple to put together, just a couple of plant pieces in the bucket.

With a pile of vines, I had to figure out a way to attach them. And then they stuck out too far on the side to fit in the usual bucket piece. But I had a bucket-type piece from a compatible set that didn't restrict the vines where they stuck out. I do wish I had some green or brown stud-on-the-side pieces for this one.

I just recently built Lego set 41196, which has a sort of purple tree-house setting. I took several of the branches from that set, rearranged them a bit, and put them in the purple barrel I had.

And for the last bucket, I got creative with some pieces that would normally be tree tops. This one comes out as somewhat of an alien-looking plant, quite a bit bigger than the others.

Since I now had a collection of plants, I added to them a bonsai tree I had made a while back, but changed out the flowers on it from yellow to purple ones.

So now I have a whole garden of potted plants.
