It's PRIDE month, and Lego has come out with set 40516 - Everyone is Awesome. It's a rainbow waterfall-like background, with solid-color minifigures matching each color. The solid-color minifigs in different colors are pretty neat, especially with some hair in colors we haven't seen in hair before. So of course, we bought two sets - one to build as directed, and one to build how we want.
So here's the build as-written, except that I swapped the order of the minifigures. It was a very simple build, nothing fancy. But it's a pretty solid design.
I think the contrast for each one looks much better. You can see here the lovely color progression - the black and brown for people of color on the one side, the 'standard' six-color rainbow, and then the baby blue and white and pink on the other end, to include the Trans Pride colors. For more information on the Progress Pride flag design with these colors, here's an article.
I was happy to get this set and build it as directed, but what I really wanted was to get a second set so I could customize it.
Here is my customized build #2. I've take the colors of the genderfluid flag - blue at one end and pink at the other for male/female, and purple in the middle for a mix of the two. Black and white fill in for 'all' and 'none'. You can see my genderfluid bracelet tipped over on the side of the build, there.
The figures that came with this set will be parted out to use for other things in the future. Here you can see figures I've added that represent parts of me. I/they cross the spectrum between masculine and feminine a lot, and I really enjoy the visual of this build.
Down below is a closer view of the alter-minifigs in front of the genderqueer waterfall. Left to right - Rubi, Paul, M, Kiara, and Sam.
